Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield and crest blazoned:  Buff, a bend Gules fimbriated Or.  Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed "MOBILE SUM" in Gold.  Attached above the shield on a wreath of the colors Or and Gules, a spur gear Azure charged with a horse's head erased Or.

Symbolism
The shield is buff, the color representative of the Quartermaster Corps, the parent organization.  The red is taken from the coat of arms of Lorraine, emblematic of service in World War I.  The crest represents motor and horse drawn transportation, alluding to the heritage of the unit.  The motto translates to "I'm Mobile."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 2d Division Quartermaster Train on 16 April 1929.  It was amended to correct the wording of the crest on 22 May 1929.  It was reassigned for the 2d Quartermaster Regiment effective 1 April 1936.  It was reassigned for the 2d Quartermaster Battalion on 26 February 1940.  The insignia was redesignated for the 2d Quartermaster Company on 29 December 1953.  It was redesignated for the 2d Supply and Transport Battalion on 22 April 1963.  It was redesignated for the 2d Support Battalion with description and symbolism revised effective 16 October 1989.
